Former Cathedral High School star Quinton Logan said he had been anxiously anticipating the day he makes his Division I collegiate pledge.

The Hinds Community College standout can now breathe a sigh of relief.

On Monday night, Logan committed to play baseball at Louisiana Tech.

“This takes a lot of stress off of me,” Logan said. “Not knowing where I was going to go play baseball, and now committing to a winning Division I program, it feels good.”

Logan said he chose the Bulldogs over interest

from Tulane University, Northwestern State and the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

“It’s just a good fit for me,” he said. “The coaches liked me.”

Logan said he plans to play both left field and pitch for the Bulldogs, who went 42-20 last year and reached NCAA postseason play for the first time in 29 years.

Splitting time between the outfield and the pitching mound, Logan posted .345 batting average and a .440 on-base percentage to go along with 3.64 earned-run average in 29.2 innings pitched.

Logan spent this past summer with the Newark Pilots of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League where he battled through an injury in the early going before rounding into form.

“My back tightened up, I had a lot of knots, and it took me a while to get back on track,” he said. “But after that, I had a good turnout. There was a lot of good competition, and I played against a lot of Division I guys.”

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound left-hander served as a pitcher for the Pilots, where he helped lead his squad to a 29-21 mark.

While Logan is eager to showcase his talents at the Div. 1 level, the Bulldog commit said his focus remains with Hinds and the 2017 campaign.

“I’m just trying to win a state championship this year,” Logan said.
