Cathedral looks to stay undefeated in district against Simpson

Cathedral High School coach Chuck Darbonne has had a constant message throughout the season for his squad: put together four-consecutive quarters of quality football.
In the Greenwave’s (2-3, 1-0) three losses this year, Darbonne said in each outing he felt his squad didn’t play up to its capabilities at times, including last Friday’s 28-13 loss to Parklane Academy.
“We were in that game, and the kids played hard,” Darbonne said. “We just had one or two mistakes at the wrong time.”
Cathedral will look to get back on the winning track Friday night when it hosts MAIS District 4-AAA rival Simpson Academy.
Darbonne said the Cougars (3-2) are led by triplets, Kyle, Aaron and Matthew Burney, who all stand 5-foot-7 and weigh approximately 150 pounds.
“They are the main focal points on offense and defense,” Darbonne said.
The first-year head coach said the key for his squad is to maintain ball control and win the turnover battle.
“We have to get the momentum on our side,” Darbonne said. “If we control the ball like we are capable of, I think we have a really good chance of being successful.”
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
