The Adams County Christian School girls soccer team took advantage of senior night with four seniors scoring goals, including a hat trick from Emily Williams.
In its final home game, ACCS dominated possession of the ball to top Discovery Christian 7-1.
“I saw what a soccer coach wants to see out of his seniors today. All of the seniors — the most ever in our program — were on the field today,” ACCS coach Jim Bob Allgood said.
At the start of the match, the Lady Rebels dominated possession of the ball at midfield, but didn’t notch their first goal until midway through the half.
Williams, one of the seniors honored before the game, struck first with an assist from Kayla Wisner.
At the 28th minute, senior Kayla McNutt extended the ACCS lead to 2-0.
Williams scored the Lady Rebels’ third goal, ripping the ball from approximately 20 yards away.
Wisner scored the final goal of the first half in the final minutes. It was the first career goal for the senior soccer player.
“It was amazing,” Wisner said. “It’s sad (to play the last home game), but it was fun.”
Wisner was not the only senior to score her first goal on senior night.
Briana Woods pushed a ball past the Discovery goalkeeper in the 53rd minute of the game.
“Last home game, and I finally scored,” Wood said. “I’ve been waiting years for this.”
Discovery finally broke its scoring drought with a goal in the 51st minute of the second half, but the score didn’t squander a strong performance from ACCS goalkeeper Morgan Blanton. The Lady Rebel senior tallied four saves on the day.
Williams completed her hat trick six minutes after Discovery’s goal.
“This feels like the best we’ve played so far,” Williams said.
With time winding down McNutt found the back of the net for a second time.
Allgood said not only were all his seniors able to play in the game, but he was able to substitute some underclassmen who gained valuable playing experience.
“Every girl on my bench got playing time today,” Allgood said. “It’s very important for the future of the program.”
ACCS has one more week left before playoffs begin, and Allgood said he feels like his squad is peaking at the right time.
“We are peaking at the right time, because those teams around Jackson are B, A, double D to the bone,” Allgood said.
ACCS will be back in action Sept. 28 when it plays rival Cathedral High School.
