NATCHEZ — A Natchez man is behind bars after reportedly forcing his way into the home of an elderly woman, assaulting her and stealing $800 cash Sunday.
Natchez Police Detective Jerry Ford said Victor Washington, 50, 1018 Martins Lane, allegedly came to the house of an 81-year-old woman on Weir Court and asked for work at approximately 8 p.m.
“He asked her if he could haul some stuff off for her, and she told him no,” Ford said. “He then asked her to let him in, and she said no.”
Washington then allegedly busted out a window, came into the house, cutting himself on the glass and leaving blood in the house.
He reportedly threw the woman to the ground and pulled a knife on her. Washington then reportedly went to the woman’s bedroom and began rifling through her belongings.
The woman ran outside while Washington was allegedly in her bedroom to get help from a neighbor.
Washington then reportedly fled the house with $800 in cash.
Washington was arrested and charged with aggravated assault of a person over 65 and an enhanced burglary charge Wednesday after police were able to connect him to the crime, Ford said.
An ex-girlfriend of Washington’s reportedly previously worked for the victim, and he used to take her to work at the house, Ford said.
The victim was able to recognize him from those interactions and give police a good description, Ford said.
The victim sustained cuts, Ford said, and was treated and released from Merit Health Natchez.
Washington is being held without bond in the Natchez City Jail.
