NATCHEZ — In the last three weeks, the Adams County Special Operations Group has made four prostitution arrests targeting people reportedly using the Internet to attract clients.
Sheriff Travis Patten said undercover agents have been arranging and meeting alleged prostitutes, which are made up of local as well as out-of-town suspects. Patten said those arrested are men and women of multiple sexual orientations.
Maj. Shane Daugherty, director of the special operations group, said more arrests are pending in this ongoing operation.
Patten said these arrests have led to the seizure of drugs, arrests of drug dealers and have also prevented possible thefts, robberies, blackmail and identify theft.
“These crimes go hand in hand wherever prostitution is allowed to operate,” Patten said. “Some of these prostitutes are drug addicts and are prostituting to support their habits, some are transients that use the business to provide them places to stay, while others just like the lifestyle and use it for extra money.
“Agents have gained valuable information of other crimes from these arrests and will continue to pursue people that are breaking the law in order to make our community a safer place to live, work, and raise our children.”
