VIDALIA — A Natchez man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly posting death threats on social media about an alleged criminal being investigated along with officers of the Vidalia Police Department.
Daniel L. Baker, 37, 36 Pond Meadow Road, was charged with cyberstalking and terrorizing (hate crime).
Investigator Clint Robinson said Baker has been threatening an alleged sex offender through Facebook. Recently, through a Facebook account reportedly in his own name, Baker reportedly threatened police officers for “protecting” the alleged sex offender, Robinson said.
“He made threats that when he came back to Natchez, he was going to go on a killing spree in Concordia Parish,” Robinson said.
Robinson said Natchez Police Department officers arrested Baker and he agreed to be extradited to Vidalia. During an interview with Vidalia police, Robinson alleges Baker confessed to the crime and said he would delete his Facebook account and make a public apology.
Robinson said he would not name the alleged sex offender.
“This guy is in danger of people wanting to harm him over allegations that may not be true,” he said. “And even if he is guilty, we still have to protect him.”
Baker was in the Concordia Parish jail Wednesday with no bond.
