VIDALIA — Three Vidalia men were arrested Thursday when deputies received complaints of excessive traffic and suspected drug use at a residence on Minorca Road.

When Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies approached the residence at 687 Minorca Road, Curtis Shane Cupstid, 45, was outside with two young children who were not his own, said sheriff’s office spokesman Vernon Stevens. Cupstid is alleged to have attempted to conceal a package from the deputies.

Stevens said child services kept the children until the children’s mother could be contacted.

Inside the residence, deputies found Jacob C. Simmons, 26, reportedly attempting to hide something, Stevens said.

Deputies allegedly found 2.5 grams of a substance suspected to be methamphetamine and dose units of Xanax and some substances deputies believe was used as a cutting agent for the meth, Stevens said.

Cupstid, 687 Minorca Road, and Simmons, 107 Vidalia Drive, Vidalia, were both charged with possession of schedule II drugs with intent, possession of schedule III drugs, obstruction of justice, use of controlled substances in presence of a person under 17, two counts contributing to the delinquency of a minor and two counts improper supervision.

Before deputies left the residence, Robert Todd Jr. reportedly drove to the residence, and then turned around. Before he could depart, Stevens said officers stopped him and allegedly found .5 grams of suspected methamphetamine on him and a small amount of Xanax after questioning him.

Todd, 29, 287 Sage Road, Vidalia, was charged with driving under suspension, possession of schedule I drugs, possession of schedule III drugs, resisting an officer and probation and parole hold.

Simmons, Todd and Cupstid were in jail Friday on bonds of $59,000, $50,750 and $65,000, respectively.

On Wednesday, deputies arrested two people at 8888 Louisiana 129 in Monterey who were also allegedly using drugs in the presence of a young child.

Deputies were dispatched to the residence in reference to illegal narcotics being used, Stevens said. At the residence, deputies found Opie Monroe Wiggington, 39, and Whitney F. Wigginton, 29, and arrested them on a probation violation.

Stevens said deputies called in the K-9 officer to check the residence, and 6.1 grams of methamphetamine were recovered in the air vents. Stevens said deputies also reportedly found drug paraphernalia, scales, pipes and syringes in the vents.

Stevens said deputies allowed the parents of the child to contact a grandparent to pick up the child.

Both were charged with possession of schedule II drugs with intent, use of controlled substances in presence of person under 17 and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

Monroy and Whitney Wiggington were in jail Friday on bonds of 65,000 and $55,000, respectively.
