Natchez High School’s jamboree game against Hazlehurst High School has been canceled, Natchez Public Relations Coordinator Steven Richardson confirmed Friday afternoon.
The game was slated to take place at 5:30 p.m. at McComb High School.
The Bulldogs-Indians matchup was scheduled to kick off a doubleheader, with Wilkinson County High School against McComb to follow at 6:45 p.m. That game has also been cancelled.
Natchez and first-year head coach Roy Rigsby will host Wilkinson County next Friday, Aug. 19 in both team’s regular-season openers.
Cathedral will also have to wait at least another week to kick off its 2016 campaign.
Cathedral’s jamboree games today at Copiah Academy against the Colonels and Winston Academy have been cancelled due to heavy rain in the area, Cathedral officials confirmed Friday afternoon.
Cathedral was slated to face Winston at 6:30 p.m. and Copiah Academy 8 p.m. tonight.
The Green Wave will open regular-season play Aug. 19 when it travels to St. Aloysius.
Additionally, jamborees for Jefferson County, Centreville and Franklin County have been cancelled.
Centreville was scheduled to play at Oak Forest Academy, facing off against the Yellowjackets at 7 p.m. and then Parklane at 7:30 p.m. Franklin County High School, meanwhile, was slated to face Crystal Springs, while JCHS was scheduled to play at 6 p.m. against Yazoo County High School.
“I believe in faith, and it just wasn’t for us,” Jefferson County coach James Herrington said. “Due to the weather and field conditions, it could have been more detrimental than helpful.”
Jefferson County will open the regular season Friday, Aug. 19 against South Pike High School.
Centreville will face Amite School Center next week, Franklin County will travel to Broohaven and Jefferson County will host South Pike in each team’s regular-season opener.
