FERRIDAY — A routine traffic stop of an alleged erratic driver Monday led to the arrest of two Monterey residents on drug charges.
Paula Wigginton Green, 33, 9170 Louisiana 129, and Christopher Cross, 31, 7715 Louisiana 129, were both charged with careless operation, possession of schedule II drugs with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped the pair on Levens Addition Road when he noticed a Dodge Durango weaving into the oncoming lane of traffic, sheriff’s office spokesman Vernon Stevens said..
After questioning three individuals in the vehicle, the deputy allegedly observed nervous behavior from the driver, Green. A male occupant also initially identified himself using a false name, Stevens said.
As the male passenger, Cross, exited the vehicle, the deputy is alleged to have observed drug paraphernalia on the seat of the vehicle.
Once questioned, the driver reportedly admitted to having illegal drugs in the vehicle, Stevens said. The deputy recovered a bag from under the driver’s seat that contained needles, drug scales and a crystal substance appearing to be methamphetamine.
A total of 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine was recovered from the vehicle.
An additional female passenger was not charged.
Cross and Green were jailed Wednesday on $32,250 and $16,058 bonds, respectively.
