VIDALIA — A man who went missing Saturday night while riding a personal watercraft on the Mississippi River was rescued Sunday morning.
Kristy Murray said her brother and three friends went riding from the boat ramp on the Vidalia side of the Mississippi River bridge to St. Francisville and back Saturday evening. One of their personal watercraft broke down near Deer Park on the way back.
But when the group went back for him, they couldn’t find him Saturday night.
Murray said they had thought he was on a sandbar south of Deer Park because it had been dark when this happened.
The group found him safely at 7:30 a.m. Sunday north of Deer Park, having picked him up via a boat.
Murray declined to name the adventurers at their request. She said they live outside the area but know people in the Miss-Lou.
Murray had called the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Saturday evening after the group returned, and they referred her to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
Murray said she reached the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries but the group chose not to involve them because they knew he was safe and did not wish to endanger agents by sending them out Saturday night.
