MONTEREY — A Monterey man was arrested Tuesday on charges of child molestation following a Sunday incident in which a Ferriday man allegedly took justice into his own hands by tying the accused molester up and beating him.
James Don Mulvihill, 59, 311 B.B. Beard Road, was charged Tuesday afternoon with four counts of molestation of a juvenile.
Mulvihill was arrested after allegedly being beaten by Stanley Vernon Schickel, 44, 218 Bailey Circle, Ferriday, who was charged Sunday with false imprisonment, attempted second-degree murder and a probation hold.
Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Vernon Stevens said officers arrested Mulvihill after interviews were conducted with a 16-year-old male and his mother.
Mulvihill is alleged to have lured the boy into his trailer multiple times this past week to perform inappropriate acts.
The juvenile reportedly claimed Mulvihill had a smiley face tattoo on a part of his body. The boy’s knowledge of the tattoo’s existence helped corroborate the boy’s story, investigators said.
“The child should have no knowledge of the tattoo if he had not been exposed to it,” Stevens said.
Further investigation also led to the warrant on Mulvihill Tuesday.
Mulvihill lives in the trailer behind the house in which he was beaten. Schickel had reportedly been living in the B.B. Beard house for a short period of time.
Deputies responded to the B.B. Beard Road house Sunday on another complaint and found Schickel reportedly leaving the residence with what appeared to be blood on his hands and clothes.
Inside the residence, deputies allegedly found Mulvihill bound to a chair with duct tape and bloodied. He was treated and released from Riverland Medical Center.
Schickel was arrested at the scene of the incident Sunday.
Schickel is alleged to have attacked Mulvihill after finding out about the molestation of the juvenile. Stevens would not say if Schickel was related to the juvenile victim.
Schickel was being held on a $90,000 bond at the Louisiana 15 prison Wednesday. Mulvihill was being held on an $80,000 bond at the courthouse jail Wednesday.
