FERRIDAY — The third time was not the charm for Ferriday Mayor Sherrie Jacobs.

The mayor attempted to call a special meeting Tuesday to address personnel and financial issues, but three aldermen were no-shows.

Tuesday’s meeting was Jacobs’ third attempt to appoint a town clerk, town attorney and seek a line of credit from the state bond commission to pay bills.

The meeting resulted in no action being taken due to a lack of a quorum on the board. Only Johnnie Brown and Glenn Henderson were present, with Gloria Lloyd, Gail Pryor and Chryl Smith-Lee absent.

Smith-Lee has since informed the mayor she was at a doctor’s appointment. Jacobs said she has received no communication from Pryor and Lloyd.

Jacobs said she planned to meet the aldermen halfway and propose hiring the most recent town attorney, Myisha Davis, for the same position and Amanda Gagnard as the town clerk for the third time. Jacobs had first proposed former town attorney Anna Ferguson to serve in the role.

“I need them to be approved so we can move on,” Jacobs said. “We have much bigger fish to fry than this petty stuff they are entertaining.”

Previously, Jacobs has said the line of credit is needed for potentially meeting payroll, but she’s also learned much of the town’s equipment is in disrepair. She said not being able to borrow funds hamstrings her and the town.

“We have been piecing equipment together and jump-starting it, but it’s been a headache because there has been no maintenance done on anything,” Jacobs said. “I am not able to do the things I told my people I would do for them, but I will get it done.

“We are going to move forward.”

The board’s next regularly scheduled meeting is at 6 p.m. Aug. 9.
