Weekend Ticket: Minorville Jubilee, fundraisers highlight events

NATCHEZ — Barbecue, softball and local history are all on tap this weekend, along with a little dose of helping your neighbors.

The weekend weather is forecast to kickoff with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms, but Sunday should be partly cloudy with no rain. Highs will be in the low 90s.

Concordia PAWS Inc. fundraiser

Concordia PAWS Inc. will sell barbecue dinners from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.

Dinners are $10 and can be picked up at Haney’s Big House on First Street in Ferriday.

Co-Ed softball tournament fundraiser

Come one, come all to participate in some family fun and some fundraising for a family, Saturday.

Vidalia residentDon Butler was diagnosed with liver failure and is currently awaiting a liver transplant.

To help with medical and travel expenses, Butler’s friends and family have organized a softball tournament to raise money.

For $15 a player, you can enjoy the tournament, raffles and silent auctions.

They are still in need of volunteers to umpire the games as well people to donate concessions.

Time slots will be drawn Friday night, and teams will be contacted to let them know what time they will play.

Minorville Jubilee

Minorville will celebrate its history as it has for the last two decades with a march, inspirational talks, voter registration and an open fire hydrant, to name a few activities on Saturday.

The festivities will start at 9:30 a.m. with a march to the church, followed by gospel music and educational and inspirational speakers.

At 1:30 p.m., local firefighters will open a fire hydrant for children to play in until approximately 3:30 p.m..

Voter registration information will be available and the Iron Man Running Challenge will be at 5 p.m.

Natchez Little Theatre fundraiser

The oldest community theater in Mississippi will have a garage sale fundraiser at the theatre Saturday morning.

The sale starts at at 6 a.m. and will last until 2 p.m.

The Natchez Little Theatre is located at 319 Linton Ave. at Maple Street.

Natchez Legends & Lore

Travel back in time Monday to learn about “Jersey Settlers Then and Now” with Karen O’Neal.

The talk will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Rolling River Bistro on Main Street.

The event is free to the public.
