FERRIDAY — A Ferriday 17 year old was charged Wednesday for allegedly shooting at an occupied vehicle last week. The arrest came just days after the teen’s mother was charged in the same incident.
Police now believe the mother was driving when her son stepped out of the car to shoot at someone with whom he’d earlier argued.
Ferriday Police charged Donnie Sanders III, 17, 804 Eighth St., with four counts of attempted second-degree murder.
On Monday, the department arrested Colleen Griggs, 42, of the same address, and charged her with four counts of attempted second-degree murder in connection with the same incident.
Ferriday Police investigator Richard Madison said Griggs was reportedly driving the vehicle on Friday when her son, Sanders, allegedly stepped out to fire up to six rounds at a white Jeep Cherokee going south on Eighth Street. In the shooting, two rounds struck the rear back panel.
No one was hurt in the incident, but four men were in the Jeep. Madison said Griggs also reportedly had an infant grandchild in the vehicle when the shooting occurred.
Madison said Sanders and the victims allegedly got into a fight earlier on Friday with one of the victims at Concordia Park Apartments on Kyle Road.
Madison said the victim left with friends and Sanders reportedly got in the car with his mother and they allegedly went after the Jeep Cherokee, catching it several blocks away at the corner of Eighth and Alabama streets.
Sanders was arrested Wednesday morning by the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office when he showed up for court facing arraignment on previous charges of two counts simple criminal damage to property.
Griggs and Sanders were both held Wednesday in the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Jail. Sanders had no bond set and Griggs’ bond was set at $36,000.
