NATCHEZ — A Georgia man is behind bars after leading police on a July Fourth high-speed chase that began in Adams County and ended in West Feliciana Parish in Louisiana.
Shortly before 4 p.m., Adams County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to pull over Antonio D. Brinson, 39, 2397 Cone Lane, Snellville, Ga., on U.S. 61 near Merit Health Natchez. Brinson had reportedly been involved in two hit-and-run accidents earlier in the day and ran a third vehicle off the road in Sibley.
Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers took over the chase when Brinson crossed into Wilkinson County, attempting to stop Brinson, who was driving a red Kia at a high rate of speed, MHP Cpl. Brandon Fortenberry said.
Brinson reportedly ran through several traffic signals and stop signs and used the left front side of his vehicle to run one of two troopers pursuing him off the road, causing the trooper’s vehicle to have a blown tire, Fortenberry said.
MHP called off the chase once in Louisiana, at which point West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office began pursuing Brinson.
West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Erin Foster said the sheriff’s office apprehended Brinson, but details of his apprehension were not available Tuesday.
Brinson was charged in West Feliciana with hit and run, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle upon a peace officer, flight from an officer, resisting a police officer with force or violence, reckless operation of a vehicle and driving on a shoulder, ditch or sidewalk.
Fortenberry said Brinson is also facing charges in Mississippi, but those charges are currently pending.
