WESSON – Copiah-Lincoln Community College Career, Technical and Workforce Education Division recently recognized Jordan Carriers at its Business and Industry Appreciation Breakfast held at The Thames Center on the college’s Wesson Campus. The annual appreciation event is an opportunity to honor district businesses or organizations that have provided exceptional support for Co-Lin students and programs.
The President’s Award was presented to Jordan Carriers, which has been an integral part of establishing the diesel program on the Natchez campus. Jordan signed on as a signature partner for the grant application Co-Lin submitted through the U.S. Department of Labor targeting the transportation industry in the Adams County area.
Once the grant was awarded, the Natchez company generously donated employee time and expertise, as their shop managers supplied knowledgeable feedback and recommendations on equipment and shop layout for the new diesel facility at the Natchez campus. When the construction of the facility was delayed, Jordan provided shop space and donated equipment on an as needed basis to allow diesel students to complete their hands-on lab learning.
In addition to their involvement with Co-Lin’s diesel program, Jordan has partnered with Workforce Education allowing Natchez Campus commercial driving (CDL) students to visit their facility to learn how to properly complete the required log books. Many Co-Lin Workforce Education CDL completers have found employment with Jordan Carriers as a result of this partnership.
During fiscal year 2015, Jordan’s approximately 375 employees received 11,500 contact hours of training through a Workforce Education project which covered their in-house and on-line training for employees.
A Co-Lin spokesperson said special thanks go to all who made this year’s Pathways Job Fair and the Business and Industry Appreciation Breakfast possible, including All American Check Cashing, Greenbriar Digging Service, Hunting-Ingalls Industries, Hydradyne, King’s Daughters Medical Center, Peterbilt of McComb, PriorityOne Bank, SuperTalk Radio – Southwest Mississippi WRQO, Trustmark National Bank, and Williford, Gearhart, & Knight, Inc.
