NATCHEZ — Police responded to an apparent drive-by shooting shortly before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zipy gas station at the corner of Old Washington Road and Lynda Lee Drive.
Natchez Police Lt. Kenneth Stampley said multiple shots were fired at an SUV in the parking lot of the gas station. Witnesses said the vehicle was reportedly unoccupied, and no injuries were reported, Stampley said.
Shell casings on the roadway indicated the shooter or shooters were traveling in a vehicle driving on Old Washington Road in front of the gas station when they began firing, Stampley said.
The SUV had several apparent bullet holes and at least one shattered window visible from the roadway.
Anthony Haywood, 30, of Natchez was shot to death while apparently driving down St. Catherine Street just hours before the shooting at Zipy. Stampley said police could not say whether the two shootings were related.
“They could be, but we don’t know,” he said.
Police taped off Old Washington Road on both sides of the gas station and remained on scene as of 3 a.m.
