NATCHEZ — Adams County Supervisor Angela Hutchins has been named the president of the workforce development board for Southcentral Mississippi Works.
The board, which serves 17 counties through the WIN Job Center, oversees job training programs and the comprehensive workforce system in the region, said Hutchins, who has served on the board for five years.
Through the workforce board, she has arranged for Adams County to host internships with the local government, and of the approximately 15 people who have gone through the Adams County program, one has been hired full-time.
“I have always loved helping people, placing them where they can get the skills they need,” she said. “It gives them a feel of the work, to find out what they need to be able to get out and get jobs.”
Hutchins was appointed to a two-year term on the board. As president, she will be able to set agendas and where the board meets in addition to chairing the meetings. The next meeting will be in Natchez in the fall.
The workforce development board develops and submits plans and budgets for local workforce efforts, and hires a second board composed of professionals, private businesspeople and educators to review efforts and present recommendations to the primary board for approval, Hutchins said.
The group also works with local one-stop partners — for example, community colleges — to develop workforce skills and advancement programs, she said.
“This is an honor for me, because it is something I enjoy doing,” she said. “It gives me a chance to work with the youth, and I love seeing people able to work.”
