RIDGECREST — A Ferriday man brought additional charges on himself after allegedly kicking a deputy following a routine traffic stop.
Jeremy Darnell Kelly, 26, of 113 Freeman St., was stopped Wednesday for careless operation on U.S. 84 near Levee Heights Road in Ridgecrest, public information officer Vernon Stevens said.
Kelly allegedly exited the vehicle and attempted to walk away. The deputy reportedly told Kelly to stop, and Kelly reportedly reached into his pocket as if to retrieve an item.
The deputy attempted to cuff and subdue Kelly at that point, but Kelly is alleged to have kicked, cussed and screamed at the deputy. Kelly reportedly swallowed whatever was in his pocket.
Marijuana was allegedly found in Kelly’s vehicle following the alteraction.
Kelly was charged with careless operation, no turn signals, resisting a police officer with force or violence, obstruction of justice and possession of schedule I drugs. He was being held without bond Thursday.
