VIDALIA — A Natchez man has been indicted in connection with an April double-killing in Vidalia.
A Concordia Parish grand jury returned the indictment of two counts first-degree murder against Curt Thornton, 35, earlier this week.
Thornton is charged in the killings of his estranged wife, Angela Thornton, 36, and John Tibbs, 36, both of whom were killed at Angela Thornton’s 1649 Azalea Drive residence in Vidalia.
The killings, both of which were by shooting with a .44-caliber pistol, happened in the early morning hours of April 6. Curt and Angela Thornton’s children were in the house at the time, and one of the children discovered the bodies.
Tibbs had been shot once, while Angela Thornton had been shot several times.
Entry into the house that night had reportedly been done using a torch to cut the Plexiglas on the residence’s back door.
Curt Thornton was briefly on the run following the shooting, but was captured that afternoon after he was stopped in Amite County for riding a motorcycle without a helmet. He reportedly admitted to the shootings to the deputy who arrested him.
Thornton is set to be arraigned June 1.
