Music festival, rodeo headline weekend events

NATCHEZ — This weekend will bring music, cowboys and a moment of remembrance to the Miss-Lou.

The weather will be partly cloudy with highs in the mid 80s, perfect for enjoying Festival of Music activities, a rodeo and Memorial Day weekend activities.

Weekend Festival of Music festivities kick off Thursday night with “A Tribute to Gone with the Wind” at Stanton Hall.

The show will consist of music from the era of the book and the movie, Mozart and Rossini, Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra and modern music from the South.

Shows are at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., and tickets cost $40, or $10 for students K-12, adults with K-12 students or college or active military with current ID.

Friday night has in store an evening of old Spanish Natchez.

The event will feature a street party including Spanish wines, live Spanish music and a tour of two homes in the old Spanish quarter of Natchez between Washington Street and State Street. Tours begins at 6 p.m., and the street party starts at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $75 with tours and $40 without tours.

Saturday night, “Carmen” begins at 7 p.m. at the Natchez Performing Arts Center at Margaret Martin.

A cash bar begins at 6 p.m., and tickets cost $40, or $10 for students K-12, adults with K-12 students or college or active military with current ID.

Adams County Sheriff’s Deputy Rodeo

Saddle up, the rodeo is in town.

The annual rodeo will begin Friday night and take place Saturday night as well, with gates opening at 5 each night and events starting at 7:30.

Classic rodeo competitions plus a calf scramble, a diamond dig and carnival-like attractions will entertain.

The event is a fundraiser for the Adams County Sheriff’s Deputy fund. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for kids, with a $2 discount if bought in advance at the Sheriff’s Department.

Kids’ Music Fest: Painting with Emotion

Children of all ages will get to paint to the music Saturday.

At 10 a.m. children are invited to meet at Jefferson Street United Methodist Church to create paintings while listening to music.

Home With Heroes Memorial Day events

Home With Heroes, a volunteer organization serving veterans in Adams County and Concordia Parish, will put on events Saturday in honor of Memorial Day.

At 10 a.m. on the bluff, the group will launch 300 balloons at the Vue Hotel. The public is invited to attend, and can tag the balloons in honor of a veteran, current service member or in honor of a veteran who has passed away.

Following the balloon release, “In Their Boots,” a multimedia program including video clips from World War II will be shown at the Vue.
