NATCHEZ — Residents of Ward 4 will decide today who will be their representative on the Natchez Board of Aldermen for the next four years.
The race is between Felicia “Rochelle” Bridgewater-Irving and Joseph Louis Gunning, the top two vote-getters from a field that originally included five candidates.
In the May 10 primary, Gunning received 32 percent of the vote, while Bridgewater-Irving received 23 percent.
The Ward 4 voting precinct is located at Christian Hope Missionary Baptist Church at 301 LaSalle St.
Voting hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Assistant City Clerk Dianne Holland said 112 absentee ballots were sent out for the runoff. A total of 738 Ward 4 residents voted in the first round of the election.
While today’s election will close out all of the aldermen’s races, the general election between mayoral candidates Darryl Grennell, a Democrat, and Eric Junkin, an independent, is yet to be decided.
That race will be June 7.
Holland said absentee voting for the general election would begin as soon as the Ward 4 runoff is certified.
