Concordia Parish, Lake St. John waterworks districts to apply for grants

VIDALIA — The Concordia Parish and Lake St. John waterworks districts will apply for up to $115,000 in grant monies for utility improvements.

The Concordia Parish Police Jury unanimously approved the move to seek admittance to the Louisiana Community Water Enrichment program and seek the funds.The Lake St. John Waterworks District is planning a project for $506,000 worth of improvements to bring the system up to Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality water standards.

The biggest purchase will be a $275,000 ozone generator. The district also plans to spend $25,000 on controls and electrical, $20,000 on piping for the plant, $7,500 for chlorination equipment and $45,000 on building and slab. The remaining expense is in engineering and surveying fees.

The Concordia Parish Water District No. 1 is planning to purchase a $35,000 utility locating system. It is a replacement to help the district better locate waterlines, Police Jury Secretary-Treasurer Kevin Friloux said.

The waterworks districts provide and filter water for parish residents.

In other news, Police Jury President Jimmy Jernigan and District 5B Juror Red Tiffee plan to attend a road conditions meeting in Ouachita Parish.

The meeting will address deteriorating parish road conditions due to logging, oil and gas and farming industries.

“I guess the oil trucks are tearing up the roads there, too,” Jernigan said.

“We need to find out what we are supposed to do,” Tiffee said.

4Cornell Lewis was appointed to the Concordia Sewer District No. 1.

4Lane Dale was reappointed to the Concordia Parish Recreation District No. 2, which serves the Monterey area.

4Phillip Spinks and Tim Richards Jr. resigned from the Black River Lake Commission.

4Illusions, located at 6008 U.S. 84, was approved an occupational license and for a Class A alcoholic beverage permit.
