NATCHEZ — Two Louisiana residents passing through Adams County were killed Sunday afternoon in a single-vehicle wreck.
Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers responded to the wreck — which was on U.S. 61 South near White Apple Road — at 12:24 p.m. Sunday, an MHP spokesman said.
The driver of a 2005 Chevrolet passenger car, Mika Peoples, 34, of Calhoun, was ejected from the vehicle, which ran off the roadway and collided with a tree.
The passenger, Shana Leblanc, 27, of Gonzales, was thrown into the back seat in the wreck.
Adams County Coroner James Lee said Peoples was pronounced dead at the scene, while Leblanc was later pronounced dead at the Merit Health Natchez emergency room.
“This is a terrible tragedy and a call no parent ever wants to receive,” Lee said. “Prayers for these families are very much needed at this time.”
The wreck remains under investigation.
