NATCHEZ — The Adams County Coroner’s Office has moved to a new location.
The office has moved from its long-time location at 112 S. Wall St., to 150 E. Franklin St.
Adams County Coroner James Lee said the move happened after the building was vacated by Metro Narcotics, and was made with an eye of being able to better accommodate the coroner’s office’s needs and possibly expand its services.
The former location only allowed space for very limited numbers of people to come in at a given time for interviews in death investigations, Lee said.
The new location also allows the office to better secure evidence and personal belongings received off bodies, he said, as well as the cremated remains of unclaimed bodies.
“The county has not found a place to bury those yet, and they are not just something you can just throw away,” he said. “We needed a place to secure them as well.”
Lee said in the future he hopes to get approval to use the additional space in his office to host workshops and investigative classes for nursing students and entry level police officers.
