FERRIDAY — A Concordia Education Center student was arrested Thursday morning after allegedly verbally assaulting a teacher.
Shiterrius D. Johnson, 17, 601 Virginia Ave., Ferriday, was charged with simple assault and simple assault on a schoolteacher.
Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Vernon Stevens said Lee Ford, the school’s resource officer, made the arrest. Stevens said he did not have further details on the incident.
Concordia Parish School District Interim Superintendent Loretta Blankenstein said the altercation was not physical. But since physical threats were reportedly made against a teacher, an arrest was made, she said.
The charge stems from an incident in the cafeteria in which the student was asked to correct a behavior. When the student got up to leave, he is alleged to have started using profanity and threatened violence against the teacher.
Blankenstein would not name the teacher.
Johnson was released on a $1,700 bond.
