NATCHEZ — At the Natchez Rotary Club meeting Wednesday, the Natchez-Adams School District’s public relations leader invited the public to get involved in the schools.

Steven Richardson said the community could become involved in the schools in multiple ways.

“I want you to find your place in our district because there are a lot of things you can bring to the table,” he said. “We want your help.”

Partners in Education is a program in which businesses and individuals in the community can gain access to school leaders to bring expertise to the table. Richardson said the district is looking to expand the program. Community members can also join the P-16 Council, which meets at 4:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month at the Steckler Multipurpose Building. The council discusses school policy and presents its information to the school board.

The community service arm, TeamNASD, is also open to the public.

“We try to go out and serve the community we live, work and play in,” Richardson said.

Richardson invited Natchezians to participate in Natchez Freshman Academy’s Tie Thursday. On Thursdays, the boys dress up in ties, many donated by members of the community. Richardson said people also give 15-minute motivational speeches.

Joining the district’s Parent University program is a chance for parents to learn more about the instructional materials used in class and allows the community to meet with principals and teachers.

Finally, Richardson invited the community to come tour the facilities in the upcoming school year.
