NATCHEZ — Natchez High School baseball is back to its winning ways, taking its second consecutive game Saturday against Vicksburg High School, 13-2.
Chris Scott earned the win for the Bulldogs, striking out four batters in three innings of relief.
Natchez sprung for five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Jadarius Ivory led off with a single, followed by a single from Dalvion Jackson to put runners at the corners with no outs. Jatavis Melton scored Ivory on a ground ball sacrifice for the first of Natchez’s five first-inning runs.
Melton, the Bulldogs’ starter, hit trouble in the third inning when he hit the leadoff man and walked the following batter. A sacrifice fly ball scored the leadoff hitter and an error scored Vicksburg’s second base runner, but Melton picked off a runner at second and struck out the final batter before the inning could get out of hand.
Ivory was 2-for-2 with a double, RBI and three runs. Shavoké Herrington was 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Melton went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Melton and Scott combined to allow just one hit in the ball game.
