FERRIDAY — A Ferriday mayoral candidate alleges someone intimidated her supporters during the election earlier this month.

Sherrie Jacobs, who will face incumbent Mayor Gene Allen in the April 9 Ferriday mayoral runoff, said she reported a complaint with the FBI for illegal activities during this election season.

Allen said anything illicit is news to him.

Jacobs alleges her supporters are being intimidated, harassed and threatened for voting and advocating for her as the town’s mayor.

Jacobs said she filed the complaint form this past Friday with the FBI. She alleges her supporters were intimidated at the polls on March 5 and have been since.

“My yard signs have also come up missing,” she said. FBI New Orleans Division media coordinator Craig Betbeze said the bureau had no comment on the allegations.

Allen, who will face Jacobs in the run-off on April 9, said he has not heard of any threats being issued.

“We have not experienced any voter intimidation,” Allen said of his supporters. “I have not heard anything about voter intimidation in Ferriday.”

During the March 5 primary, Jacobs received the most votes during the four-person race at 532. Allen received 388 votes.
