PORT GIBSON — Search teams looking for two Port Gibson fishermen who went missing last week only turned up a lifejacket Monday. The lifejacket, found on the Mississippi River south of the Bayou Pierre, contained three cell phones belonging to Joshua Wilson, 25, said Claiborne County Sheriff Frank Davis. His older brother Darryl Wilson, 30, has also been reported missing.
The lifejacket and phones are the first signs of the brothers that have been found.
The pair went missing during a storm March 9 while fishing in a commercial boat near the Bayou Pierre on the Louisiana side. The pair work for the family-owned 61 Fish Market in Port Gibson.
Davis said teams have been searching every day since the pair went missing and have covered a range from Vicksburg to Baton Rouge.
The search has been a multi-jurisdictional effort including the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Civil Air Patrol, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, the Claiborne County Civil Defense and volunteer fishermen.
Davis said the weather from this past week initially impeded the search, as the air patrol was unable to fly.
