Leap into week with good news
Published 12:58 am Monday, February 29, 2016
Today is one of those rare days that only comes around every four years — Leap Day.
But the special day, is made all the more special by our regular Monday tradition of celebrating good news from our community last week.
-Many thanks to the organizers of Saturday’s Wharlest Jackson commemoration. Without strong leaders like Jackson, who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their beliefs, Natchez would not be what it is today.
-Thanks also go to Cathedral School for bringing in a nationally known parenting expert to talk to local parents.
-After years of substandard water quality, the Town of Ferriday finally cut a ceremonial ribbon on its new water plant last week. We applaud the town for getting the plant put into production.
-Adams County Supervisors touted a successful trip to Washington, D.C., last week suggesting the fruits of their labor — $1 million in federal Emergency Watershed Project funds — had beaten the supervisors’ home. While that’s difficult to believe, we’re certain that making a face-to-face connection to our leaders in Washington does help remind them of our needs.
-Congratulations to Natchez High School’s new head football coach Roy Rigsby after serving as the team’s defensive line coach last season. We wish Rigsby and the Bulldog nation the best in the new relationship.
-Congratulations to the organizers of the 27th annual Natchez Literary and Cinema Celebration. NLCC continues to be a great event for Natchez and for the surrounding community. Congratulations to the award recipients honored at the celebration on Saturday, including Richard Wright Literary Award Winners Jerry Mitchell and Suzanne Marrs. Additional honors went to filmmaker Bryan Burch for his documentary film featuring the tragedy at the Natchez Rhythm Club fire in 1940.
We hope you have a great week filled with lots of good news.
