NATCHEZ — Magnolia Bluffs Casino’s nearly $2 million renovation of the former Isle of Capri Casino Hotel is nearly complete.

The hotel will reopen Tuesday as Magnolia Bluffs Hotel after approximately three months of construction.

Magnolia Bluffs purchased the six-floor hotel for approximately $11.5 million when the Isle announced in August 2015 plans to close its Natchez casino and hotel. The casino closed in October 2015.

The exterior of the building was completely repainted, and the interior has been gutted and completely redone, Magnolia Bluffs Casino President Kevin Preston said.

“We had to,” Preston said. “It was in really, really bad shape. There was mold in some places … and leaks and stuff like that.”

The hotel’s 141 rooms have been renovated with hardwood flooring, new showers, toilets, vanities and other amenities. Each room features a 42-inch television, microwave and refrigerator.

The hotel has been decorated in a modern style, Preston said, with color palette including red, blue and gray that complement colors used in the Magnolia Bluffs Casino on Roth Hill Road.

The banquet room has been remodeled, including new carpet, and will be open for reservations for gatherings, family reunions and other events, Preston said.

The hotel has a new bar and dining space in the lobby area. The bar will be open at night, and Preston said Magnolia Bluffs is currently working on menus for hotel’s food offerings. Preston said the hotel will also host live entertainment some nights in the bar area or outside at the pool area.

The hotel pool will receive an $8,000 upgrade in the summer, which will include opening the hot tub that was previously filled in with mulch and used as a flowerbed.

On the fifth floor the hotel will have a suite available for gatherings that includes a room with a 65-inch flat-screen television and pool table. The room can be rented by itself or with one or both of two adjacent sleeping rooms, Preston said. A view of the river can also be seen from the suite.

A fitness room and business center have also been added to the hotel.

The hotel elevators will also receive an upgrade, Preston said, but the company wants to wait until the renovations are completely finished to make those improvements.

Crews worked last week on finishing touches to the hotel before the hotel opens next week. Preston said Magnolia Bluffs made a concerted effort to use local contractors for work and purchase materials and décor items, such as paintings, from local stores.

“That was really important to us, to work with as many local people as we could,” Preston said.

Despite being closed for the past three months for renovations, Preston said reservations have been steady.

“Reservations have been unbelievably huge at this point, with weddings and family reunions and other events in town,” Preston said. “It’s been great, really exciting for us.”

Preston said Magnolia Bluffs always intended to have a hotel in Natchez to complement its casino.

“We couldn’t fit one on our site, so this was a logical fit for us,” he said.

Preston said he is proud to have accomplished his vision for the hotel and thinks it is a space the community will enjoy.

“I really think the style and décor is really different for Natchez, but (I’m also proud of) just the change from what the Isle was and how it’s transformed to what it is today, (as well as) bringing back a bar concept and entertainment to the hotel,” Preston said. “As a person that has been in this community for a while, I wanted to create something for the people and community to be proud of.”
