The Cathedral Parent Organization (CPO) will host a two-day speaking engagement with John Rosemond, the nation’s leading parenting expert at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and again on at 9 a.m. Friday. Rosemond will deliver a keynote presentation Thursday evening titled “Parenting with Love and Leadership: From Tots to Teens” and “You’re More than Just a Mom” to parents on Friday morning. On Thursday evening, babysitting will be available and light refreshments will be provided by St. Mary Basilica’s Family Life Commission.
Rosemond is a family psychologist, a nationally syndicated newspaper columnist with his parenting column appearing in 225 newspapers nationwide; an author of 20 books on parenting and family issues, including Christian bestseller “Parenting by The Book.” Rosemond is an internationally-recognized speaker. His TV appearances include 20/20, Good Morning America, The View, The Today Show and CNN. Despite his impressive credentials, Rosemond insists that his real qualifications are that he is a husband to Willie of 46 years, parent to two adult children, and grandparent to seven grandchildren ranging in age from 7 to 20 years old.
John was born in Asheville, N.C., on Nov. 25, 1947. He was raised in Charleston, S.C., and the suburbs of Chicago. He obtained his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Western Illinois University where he met his “wife-for-life,” Willie. They have lived in North Carolina since 1974 where they actively volunteer in their community and attend Tabernacle Baptist Church. Rosemond began devoting himself exclusively to writing and public speaking in 1991 after working as a family psychologist in various settings including a private practice from 1979 to 1991. Rosemond is on a mission to help America’s parents claim loving leadership of their families. His parenting message is anti-psychological, traditional, and Biblical, stressing the need to restore a parenting ethic that is completely based on scriptural teaching. Rosemond states, “Imperfect human beings are going to be imperfect parents, but they will do a much better job using instructions from the One Perfect Being than they will do if they use instructions from other imperfect human beings.” Furthermore, Rosemond’s mission is “to be a counter-weight to the psychological parenting paradigm that was sold to America in the late 1960s/early 1970s, restore commonsense to the raising of children, and give parents guidance needed to raise happy, well-mannered children who will, as adults, contribute value to culture and society.”
Rosemond delivers more than 200 presentations annually to parents, teachers, and other professional groups. Known for his sound advice, good humor, and a relaxed, engaging style, audience members have described “feeling empowered, educated and entertained” after hearing Rosemond speak. CPO is beyond excited to sponsor Rosemond for this two day event. We invite all parents, grandparents, teachers and anyone else who helps lead children to join us for this amazing opportunity at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and again at 9 a.m. on Friday. Rosemond will offer his books and CDs for sale before and after the events, and will be available to autograph books. Both events will be held in the Multipurpose Room at Cathedral School and are free and open to the public.
