Allgood is a volunteer coach at Adams County for tennis, golf and soccer. He is prepping Rebels soccer for a run, which he hopes will go deep into the MAIS tournament.

At the same time, he is preparing for the 16th Annual Redneck Adventures Outdoor Extravaganza squirrel hunt and cookoff event on Feb. 20.

The event is primarily based around outdoor events, which offers outdoor activities for wounded veterans and their families via the non-profit organization Home for Heroes.

“It’s all about soldiers, special needs, kids and adults that need a little extra help going outdoors,” Allgood said. “It’s all about taking suffering soldiers outdoors… It’s an outreach program that allows us to help groups we’re really passionate about.”

The primary outdoor event, Allgood said, is a squirrel hunt, but there are groups that will also go rabbit hunting. Allgood said there will also be a car and outdoor vehicle showcase.

Allgood said each year he highlights particular guests, whether they are a veteran representing Home with Heroes or a guest from Hunters for the Hungry. Last year, Allgood said he dedicated a portion of his proceeds to benefit Brody Bequette, an Adams County Christian School student who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 2013.

“I’m glad to say he’s a first grader at Adams County Christian School with a curly head of blonde hair,” Allgood said.

Allgood is calling for more team entries for Saturday’s cookoff. The entry fee is $250 for up to a 10-person team to enter. The cookoff begins at 9 a.m. and the tasting starts at 1 p.m. Allgood said teams should prepare enough food for about 100 guests.

Allgood said teams will be judged based on blind judges, crowd favorites and booth presentation at the “Cookoff for Champions” event.  Cash, prizes and trophies and more will be awarded.

This year, Allgood is dedicating the cookoff to a man he describes as a “lifelong friend.”

“The cookoff will be in memory of our great lifelong friend Chef “Red” Bob Owens,” Allgood said. “It will be the first year he won’t have his hand in the pot.”

Allgood asked for interested volunteers, owners of hunting property or sponsors interested in getting involved Allgood’s Together Each Achieves More, or T.E.A.M., program to contact him at 601-597-6658 or email at redneckadventures@yahoo.com.
