End of month ushers in good news

If you’re like us, you’re probably staring at the calendar and thinking, “Where did January go?”
The month truly seems to have flown by, but not before leaving lots of good news in its wake. As is our normal Monday tradition, we pause this morning to include some good news from our community over the last week.
-Natchez Tricentennial events continue to inform and entertain. Last week a special art exhibit opened. The exhibit, Coming Home: A Tribute to Renowned Natchez Artists, will continue through the month of February at the Historic Natchez Foundation. Something about Natchez often inspires great artists and those participating the in the exhibit certainly exemplify that artistic Natchez trait.
-Natchez’s Mardi Gras season kicked off in flamboyant style last week as the Krewe of Natchez Indians Parade rolled through downtown Natchez. Our Mardi Gras may not be as elaborate as that of New Orleans, but ours makes up for it in fun and safety. More Mardi Gras fun is on tap this week as the Krewe of Phoenix Parade will roll on Friday.
-After months of waiting, a final settlement was handed down in the federal lawsuit against the Natchez-Adams School District. Many, many school district employees and parents have complained for years about problems and inconsistencies in the district’s leadership. The lawsuit seems to prove that the accusations — at least in this one case — were founded. We are glad the case is behind the district and hopeful that it’s existence proves the impetus for change soon.
