NATCHEZ — The cause of an early morning fire that destroyed two houses on Beaumont Street Tuesday is under investigation.
“At this point, we really have no idea (what started the fire),” Natchez Fire Department Battalion Chief Chris Gibson said.
The fire was reported between midnight and 12:30 a.m., and firefighters remained on scene until 4:30 a.m., Gibson said.
The fire appeared to have started in an unoccupied house at the corner of Beaumont Street and Pelican Court. The fire spread to a neighboring house, which was also unoccupied but under renovation.
No one was injured in the fire.
Firefighters from NFD’s central station as well as the No. 2, 3 and 4 stations and Adams County volunteer firefighters responded to the fire. Two trucks were used to fight the fire, and two were on stand by at the scene.
