NATCHEZ — Funeral services for Mary Margaret “Margie” Gilbert, 85, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016, at her residence, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill McCullin officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. Monday until time of services at the funeral home.
Mrs. Gilbert was born Sept. 15, 1930, in Adams County, the daughter of Mary Pauline “Viola” and Nathaniel Johnson.
She and Frank owned and operated C&G Grocery Store for 25 years. Being a member of Natchez Women’s Bowling Association, she enjoyed bowling and spending time with her many bowling friends. She enjoyed her rose bushes and azaleas. She was a wonderful person and a beloved mother who loved her family dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Gilbert; her parents; one son, Danny Steven “Steve” Gilbert; one great-grandson, Jessie Neely; three sisters, Della Mae Smith, Fannie Simpson and Sylvia Smith; and three brothers, George Johnson, Ray Johnson and Bilbo Johnson.
Survivors include one daughter, Sheryl Gilbert Neely and husband, Jimmy, of Natchez; one son, Robert F. “Bob” Gilbert and wife, Sandra, of Abaco, Bahamas; grandsons, Trey Neely and wife Holly, of Natchez, Rob Gilbert and wife, Molly, of Mt. Pleasant, N.C., and Bryan Gilbert and Emily Mayer, of Beaufort, S.C.; one grandson, Tyler Neely of Natchez; and a very special friend, Jennie Lynn Crumpton Godwin.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Neely, Casey Gilbert, Lloyd Gilbert, Sidney Wayne Johnson, Herbert Johnson and Bubba Johnson.
