Come learn about crepe myrtle pruning
Published 12:32 am Sunday, January 10, 2016
The Master Gardeners of Adams County invite the public to a series of free hands-on crepe myrtle pruning demonstrations.
Crepe Myrtles abound throughout our landscape, providing beautiful flowers throughout the summer, deep red leaf colors in fall, and magnificent trunks that seems to be inspired by an abstract artist. These lovely trees will thrive for many years with just a little care but poor air circulation and storm damage can invite decay, and untrimmed suckers can hinder a tree’s full growth and beauty.
Demonstrations will be at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14 and Thursday, Jan. 28 at Copiah-Lincoln Community College. Join us at the greenhouse across from the Alcorn dormitories. Future dates with time and place to be announced will be Feb. 11 and 25. Look for reminders and updates here and in Tracings.
Participants may attend any or all of the days. Bring loppers or hand pruners if you have them. The techniques are easy to learn and there will be plenty of opportunities to watch, practice, and ask questions!
Please come and enjoy a morning of community service and learning with us on the beautiful Co-Lin campus.
The Master Gardeners are a non-profit group dedicated to research based gardening education through the Mississippi State University Extension office.
Adams County is fortunate to have one of largest and most active groups in the state. Horticulture training is provided by the extension service in exchange for volunteer hours.
Monthly meetings include educational sessions presented by gardening experts along with fellowship. It is a wonderful way to learn about gardening, meet others with similar interests, and share experiences while serving the community. Watch for information on new classes to be offered this spring.
