Carpenter Newsmedia purchases four Ky. newspapers

NATCHEZ — Bluegrass Newsmedia, LLC, a new Kentucky entity owned by Carpenter Newsmedia, LLC, (CNL) of Natchez, has completed its purchase of The Advocate-Messenger in Danville, Ky., The Winchester (Ky.) Sun, The Jessamine Journal in Nicholasville, Ky., and The Interior Journal in Stanford, Ky., from Schurz Communications, Inc., (SCI) of South Bend, Ind. The purchase, which was announced in December, was finalized Dec. 31.
CNL is an affiliate of Boone Newspapers, Inc., (BNI) with offices in Natchez and Tuscaloosa, Ala. Former Democrat publisher Todd Carpenter, of Natchez, is BNI’s president and chief executive officer and is principal owner of CNL. James B. Boone, Jr., of Tuscaloosa, is BNI’s chairman.
“We are pleased and honored to assume responsibilities for these newspapers and look forward to working with each staff member and community. We will work hard to meet every obligation to each community served and to produce newspapers and websites each community can be proud of,” Carpenter said.
BNI and CNL own and BNI manages 74 newspapers in similar size communities in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
The newly acquired newspapers serve four communities in central Kentucky, near Lexington. The Advocate-Messenger and The Winchester Sun are daily newspapers. The Jessamine Journal and The Interior Journal are weeklies.
