NATCHEZ — Jardarius Anderson scored 19 points and Jackson Carpenter added eight as the Cathedral Green Wave defeated cross-town rival and district foe Adams County Christian School 56-48 Thursday.
“We are still fundamentally off,” Cathedral head coach Peter Arnold said. “We aren’t playing smart basketball. We aren’t even a fraction of what we are capable of, but we are still grinding out wins and that is what you have to do.”
ACCS was without one of its top scorers in Brody Cole, who was nursing a shoulder injury, impacting what head coach Richy Spears and the Rebels wanted to do.
“I knew Cathedral had some size inside and I didn’t know if we could match up, so we came out in zone,” Spears said. “And we don’t practice a whole lot of zone. We weren’t as fast as we want to be, but it is growing pains. Cathedral came out and played. They controlled us and kept us from doing things we like to do.”
Filling in the scoring column for ACCS was Andrew Ratcliff and Devin Spear, who scored 21 and 15 points, respectively.
After a tight 15-13 first quarter that went Cathedral’s way, the Green Wave were able to bust the game open in the second, outscoring ACCS 18-12 to take a 33-25 lead into halftime.
The Green Wave went on to control the rest of the game, with the Rebels only really threatening midway through the fourth quarter.
