MONTEREY — Four of Cathedral’s five starters scored double-digit points as the Lady Wave cruised to a 54-40 win against Block High School in the Monterey High School tournament Thursday night.
“Without a doubt this is our best win of the year so far,” Cathedral head coach Peter Arnold said. “We got off to a good start, opening the game on a 12-2 run. They chipped away and actually went ahead early in the third quarter by three, but then we went on another run to get up by 13 and guided it to the house from there.”
Baylee Graning led the Lady Wave with 15 points while teammates Elizabeth Smith (12), Grayson Bryant (10) and Caroline Kaiser (10), all scored double-digit points as well.
The Lady Wave were also able to contain what Arnold called a “really fast” Block guard in LaKisica Bowman.
“She had 18 of the team’s 40 points,” Arnold said. “But she is really right sided, always going to her right, and we knew that going into the game. We let her do it in the first half, but in the second half we got the ball out of her hands.”
The win pushes the Lady Wave to 3-2 this season and they will resume play Saturday against Monterey at 2 p.m.
