CENTREVILLE — Devin Spear scored 20 points and Brody Cole chipped in with 12 as the Adams County Christian School Rebels cruised to a 71-36 win against Centreville Academy on the road.
“I thought we played well on defense,” ACCS head coach Richy Spears said. “We had lots of steals leading to easy baskets early, and that got us going. That is what we’ve been doing all this time. We wanted to pressure the ball and make them make mistakes.”
Spears and his high-tempo style of play guided the Rebels to a berth in the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools AAA championship last year, and Spears said for the Rebels to have a chance at making another run, his older players will have to carry the load.
“Devin and Brody are returning starters, and Andrew Ratcliff got a lot of playing time last year,” Spears said. “We are going to lean heavily on them. That is four seniors there that have been in the system and played for me since they were in the ninth grade.”
The win was the first of the 2015 season for ACCS, making the Rebels, 1-1, and Spears said he hopes it gives his team some confidence moving forward.
“It is good for the kids to have a good game going forward with some non-district games left before we start district,” Spears said. “We need to see if we can build on it.”
Cathedral 57, Delta Charter 53
NATCHEZ — Connor Mire and Craig Bradley combined for nearly half of Cathedral’s points in the Green Wave’s 57-53 win against Delta Charter.
Mire racked up 14, while Bradley added 11 in the winning effort.
The win pushes Cathedral to 3-1 this season.
The Green Wave took control early in the game, going up 14-8 after one quarter. They continued to dictate the game and led 29-20 at half.
The Storm, however, would fight back outscoring the Green Wave 33-28 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough in the end.
Ferriday 59, New Living Word 51
RUSTON, La. — The Ferriday Trojans avenged last year’s loss to New Living Word Tuesday with a 59-51 victory on the road.
Ronald Williams and Dare Rosenthal both scored 10 for the Trojans, and Ronald Davis and Dantrieze Scott added nine.
The win pushes Ferriday to 3-0 this season.
The Trojans capitalized on a strong third quarter, where they held New Living Word to just three points, while they scored 14 on the offensive end.
