Holidays ushered in good news

As we begin another week of work and school across the area today, we pause, as is our Monday custom, to highlight some of the good news from our community.
•Natchez and the surrounding area celebrated Thanksgiving Day in a myriad of ways. But the people who seemed to have the most pleasure over the holidays were those who were giving back to mankind by serving meals or donating time to help those among us who are less fortunate.
•Among the recipients of the love of her fellow man was Lori Lei Spencer. The local woman lost her house and her business just more than a week ago to an accidental fire. She escaped with virtually nothing except her life. Since the flames died down, Spencer said she has been blessed in many, many ways by friends, neighbors and even complete strangers.
•Natchez dove into the Christmas season with both feet last week with the help of Christmas in Natchez and its annual holiday tree-lighting ceremony. The event has grown in size and spectacle each year. We thank the volunteer organizers and sponsors.
•A Vidalia truck driver proved to be a hero after helping to rescue two children after a car crash that had a fiery end. Mark Cupstid said he didn’t seek fame or glory, but was only doing what he was trained to do — help others. Cupstid is one of dozens and dozens of locals who would do the same thing if faced with the same situation. His actions, however, make us proud to call him a neighbor.
We hope as begin December tomorrow and we inch closer to Christmas that your week is filled with lots of good news.
