FERRIDAY — A 16-year-old female was able to escape her alleged kidnapper and call police Thursday night, saving her friend.
Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Vernon Stevens said Ronnie Griggs, 50, 804 S. Eighth St., Ferriday, was arrested on two charges of false imprisonment following two emergency phone calls.
Stevens said the first call came in at approximately 8:46 p.m. about a disturbance on Lower Levee Road in Ferriday.
While officers were en route, another call came in. A teen said she had been kidnapped and her 15-year-old friend was still being held in a red car.
As they were turning into Levee Road, deputies saw a car matching the description and stopped it.
“When they did, a female exited the car and began running and screaming for help,” Stevens said.
The driver, Stevens said, was Griggs. The two teens had accepted a ride from him while walking along Louisiana 15 near Kyle Road Apartments.
“Instead of taking the girls home, he took them to Levee Road where one of the girls was able to exit the vehicle,” Stevens said.
Stevens said the teen told deputies they had asked to get out of the car several times.
“Evidently, one of them was able to get out,” Stevens said.
After getting out, the teen was able to get to a phone and call for help.
“The case is still under investigation and further charges are pending,” Stevens said.
No bond has been set as of Friday night.
