Hospital will help heal wounds

Someone once said time heals all wounds. And while a certain amount of truth can be found in that statement, we also know that it’s not fully true.
Some wounds take years and years to heal. Some simply never fully heal and some wrongs are simply never forgotten, held tightly by their bitter clutch.
The latter can be said for the ill-fated Natchez Regional Medical Center.
A gang of inept leaders, financial advisors and lawyers pushed the county-owned hospital to the brink of financial death.
Adams County residents will not quickly forget the millions upon millions of dollars that were incinerated in the hospital’s last few years.
Residents also won’t forget the poor leadership that led to layer after layer of utter ineptness at the facility.
Today, one year out from the sale of the hospital to new owners the future for unsecured creditors — including county taxpayers — remains uncertain.
But the problems that crippled Natchez Regional are gone and the new owners of the hospital have invested millions of dollars into renovating the old facility.
The result is a much-improved hospital that should be well positioned to serve our community’s health care needs for many, many years to come.
We urge all county residents to set aside their feelings about the former hospital and recognize that the new hospital needs our support to remain viable.
Over time, perhaps, the wounds of Natchez Regional will be overshadowed by the high quality of its replacement.
