MONTEREY — A former Monterey High School coach was arrested Friday for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old female student.
Richard Brian Kossum, 32, 1110 Eastwood Road, Natchez, was charged with molestation of a juvenile, Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Vernon Stevens said.
Kossum joined Monterey High School’s staff as assistant baseball coach in 2014, but resigned his position Oct. 2, Concordia Parish School Superintendent Paul Nelson said.
Prior to coaching at Monterey, Kossum worked as the head baseball coach at Natchez High School. He resigned that position shortly before going to Monterey.
Kossum is a 2004 graduate of Natchez High School.
Nelson had no comment on the situation.
CPSO Investigator Phillip Smith said in a statement that Kossum’s arrest followed an extensive investigation during which evidence was found to substantiate the charges for the arrest.
Stevens said he could not comment on whether an incident or incidents related to the case occurred on school property. Nelson said he had no knowledge of whether incidents happened on campus.
Kossum was being held without bond in the Concordia Parish Jail Friday afternoon.
