Trinity football team’s spirits remain high

NATCHEZ — The Trinity Episcopal Day School Saints are 3-5 this season, and despite surrendering a 28-point halftime lead and losing to Centreville Academy last Friday, the Saints’ spirits remain high.
“It was a big blow to them, but it’s our own fault,” Trinity head coach Zach Rogel said. “The way our mentality was at halftime… We should have expected Centreville to come out and take it to us in the second half. We just got outcoached and outplayed.”
“Our goals are still attainable for this year, so that’s where we’re at.”
At 3-5, because the Saints have played up in competition, Trinity is currently No. 13 in power rankings according to Max Preps, leaving the Saints still eligible for postseason play.
But with two games remaining on the schedule, Rogel and the Saints see every game as a must-win situation, and that starts with an 0-8 Glenbrook team Friday night.
“What concerns me about them is that they’re an 0-8 team, and I think a team with nothing to lose is very dangerous,” Rogel said. “They do not look bad on film, so it’s not going to be a pushover.”
To make matters more interesting, with a 1-1 district record, Trinity could find itself in a three-way tie should Amite School Center defeat Wilkinson County Christian Academy Friday and Trinity defeat WCCA the following Friday. Rogel said he believed a tie would come down to point differential in the district, but that possibility is far from his mind at the moment.
“My guys are pretty good at one week at a time,” Rogel said. “They’ve heard about how good WCCA is this year, and they know they play Amite this week. But we’ve stressed about taking care of business against Glenbrook.”
Trinity will host Glenbrook at 7 p.m. Friday.
