Storm look to end losing streak

FERRIDAY — After falling to St. Frederick 41-6, the Delta Charter Storm have dropped four games in a row.
To make matters worse, the Storm enters a matchup against Tensas High School without three offensive linemen available, including starter Tyler Heard. Even under the current circumstances, Delta Charter head coach Jarrett Hoffpauir remains optimistic despite a 1-4 record.
“We’re just going to have to adjust,” Hoffpauir said. “The next guy is going to have to step up. (Tensas) likes to send five or six guys every play, so we’ve been working on going against it. We’ll have some two-back stuff this week to help our with protection.”
Perhaps the team’s biggest challenge this week will be stopping wide receiver Grant Jackson, who made plays against Vidalia High School and Ferriday High School in a jamboree before the season.
“With a guy like that, you just try to slow him down a little bit,” Hoffpauir said. “We’ll try to get some pressure on the quarterback, and if we have to double him, we’ll make those adjustments in the game.”
Winning is still the main priority for Hoffpauir, but his current job is preparing his players and instilling the want to succeed in his young squad.
“It’s tough because obviously guys want to jump in and win right away,” Hoffpauir said. “Everybody we play has kids at least a year older than us because we don’t have any seniors, but the kids are hanging tough.”
The Storm hosts Tensas at 7 p.m. tonight.
