Ferriday travels to face Rayville in important district clash

FERRIDAY — The Ferriday Trojans will face a Rayville Hornets team that attempts to run a play every 15 seconds tonight.
“The pressure is on for the defense,” Ferriday head coach Dwight Woods said. “They’re going to be just as talented as us. We’re going to try and sub people in and out.”
The Trojans enter the game with a 3-2 record, dropping back-to-back games against bigger opponents.
But the Trojans might as well be 0-0 entering tonight’s matchup, as the game against Rayville will be Ferriday’s first district encounter.
As a result, Woods said he’s seen his team prepare with a little more pep in their step this week.
“I think they’re more fired up,” Woods said. “They know what’s at stake now that we’re in district. I’m not going to say we took opponents for granted, but they’ve been looking at their records, thinking they could come back. But both of those teams came in and hit us in the mouth.”
Enter Rayville, a team that has struggled early in the season but has won two straight to enter the game with a 2-3 record.
Don’t let that record fool you, Woods said. The Hornets entered the season as a preseason favorite to win a district comprised of Sterlington, Mangham and Ouachita Christian School.
“They are loaded,” Woods said.
“They have four Division-I prospects, if I remember correctly. They have talent all over the field, and it all generates from the quarterback. He’s probably the best prospect they have. He sets the tempo for what they do.”
The Trojans look to slow down Rayville’s uptempo attack in a road contest at 7 p.m. tonight.
