The 25th Annual Miss-Lou D.A.R.E. Youth Fishing Tournament is scheduled for Saturday.
The Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Department is excited to announce the return of the DARE tournament weigh-in and award ceremonies to our Community Center at 26356 Louisiana 15 in Ferriday. The 2013 tournament at this location was a big success. It is closer to the lakes and we have more parking and more space. The award ceremonies will be held inside the Community Center.
The tournament committee chose not to have the tournament on the same weekend as the Jim Bowie Festival, as it has been in the past. By separating these two events, volunteers and attendees have a better opportunity to attend both events.
A map to help you travel from the 3 most popular fishing lakes to the Community Center on Louisiana 15 will be handed out with registration forms.
Concordia Parish Sheriff, Kenneth Hedrick, and the many volunteers from his department are excited about the tournament and hope to offer even more fun activities for children. This is a fun family event attended by hundreds every year. Awards are given in age groups: 2-5 years, 6-10 years, 11-14 years, and 15-18 years old for largest bream, bass and other species. Weigh-in is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Trophies are presented at from 1 to 2 p.m.
Each registrant also gets a free chance on both a bicycle and a boat, thanks to the generous donations from WalMart and Bryan’s Marine. Fishing gear, provided by the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office, will also be distributed to each registrant.
Registration began Oct. 2 and ends at 2 p.m. Friday. Registration sites include the following locations: Concordia Bank in Vidalia and Monterey, Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office in Vidalia, CPSO Monterey Substation, Concordia Sentinel, Delta Bank in Ferriday, Sports Center/Rex Sporting Goods in Natchez, Bryan’s Marine, U-Pak and Tensas State Bank in Ferriday. Registration forms will also be available online at www.concordiasheriff.org.
Join us for the fun, prizes and festivities! The D.A.R.E. Tournament is possible through the cooperation of the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Department, corporate sponsors Concordia Bank and Louisiana Hydroelectric, and many other local sponsors and affiliates of the CPSO.
Katina Washington is the D.A.R.E. Supervisor for Concordia Parish. She is a deputy at the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
